Home Sweet Home: Living Room

The last, but not least, room in our house to get some TLC is the living room. It has been sitting in despair for too long.  Not to mention, it is a large space that could be better utilized than to just store the piano.  I can't tell you how excited I am to create a space that we can entertain, relax and enjoy.

Here are some ideas of where I want to go.

Here's the state of things right now; painting in progress.
Some lights are being put in soon and then furniture.... I'll keep you posted!

Healthy Habits: Apple Cider Vinegar

The verdict is out on how long it takes to form a habit; psych 101 used to preach 21 days, but newer research espouses 66.  Now that we're well into the 2nd month of the New Year, I'm pausing to revaluate where I am with some of the new healthy habits that I'm trying to form.  Will you join me?
I'm simultaneously surprised and delighted that drinking Apple Cider Vinegar {ACV} has become part of my daily routine.  I'll be the first to admit my pessimism- on January 1, after my first drink, I was not thrilled. However, as weeks have rolled by, its become easier to drink as I started noticing results.  Therefore, I wanted to share with you.

Here are some of the benefits.

I've been drinking 1-2 tablespoons of Bragg's ACV per day, as directed.  My best advice is to drink 1 tablespoon in room temperature water with some honey, 2 times a day.  Or, I've been adding 2 tablespoons to tea every afternoon.

What have I noticed:
I feel immediate relief of upset stomach, it aids digestion and I have noticed a difference in my complexion.

Verdict:
There are articles and research that claim and dispute different things. However, based on my initial positive reaction, I'm going to stick with this for a few more months.  I have also talked to a health coach and she highly recommended this daily ritual. Has anyone else had positive results from drinking ACV?

California Sandwich

Morning, friends.  Schedules around here have been hectic lately and more often than not, I've been facing the challenge of dinnertime for one.  I don't know about you, but I find cooking for myself daunting. But, I've discovered the perfect thing... a California open faced sandwich.  With the below grocery list, you can make a hearty and quick meal that will satisfy one or a crowd.
California Sandwich
Ingredients:
Fage Greek Yogurt
Chives
Basil
Pepper jack cheese
Tomatoes
1 ripe avocado
Sprouts
S&P
Whole grain bread {for Charlotte readers, I've been loving Nova's organic whole wheat}

Directions:
Toast your bread, spread with a mix of yogurt, chives and basil.  Layer the cheese and then pile high with the desired amount of toppings.

A chair makeover

Giving my great-grandmother's chair a new life is one of my favorite house projects yet.

What I hoped for was a modern update without sacrificing the femininity of her chair and I think we were able to achieve just that.
Right now, she is nestled on the far wall of our bedroom, but chances are musical chairs will ensue.

P.S.  Franz Klein served as the inspiration for the new art in our room; it was my first attempt at painting an abstract. I'm so happy to have something up on the wall!

Love List

Love has been on my mind. And seeing as it is Valentine's Day, I thought it would be fun to share some of the things that I love lately:

1) I'm in love with this picture...
We traveled to Chicago at the beginning of February for the baptism of our niece, Kate, and were able to share in the ceremony as her godparents.  I have known many types of love in my life, as a wife, daughter, sister and friend, but loving Kate as a goddaughter ads a new and cherished dimension to that emotion.

I feel so full of gratitude that I was able hold Kate in my arms while she was baptized.  It was a powerful reminder that love, in it's many forms, is one of God's greatest gifts.

2) Paperless Post continues to be my favorite online resource for cute cards and notes. If you're looking for a last minute, not to mention eco-friedly, collection of greetings today- they have you covered.

3)  Because it is Valentine-hued, healthy and easy to make, I'm in love with beet hummus.  Its a nice change of pace from the regular store-bought variety. Simply blend in the food processor 4 {cooked and cubed} beets, 1 Tbsp of cumin, 2 Tbsp of tahini, 1 garlic clove, the zest and juice of 2 lemons and S&P to taste.

I hope that the love you feel today, in whatever form that takes, fills your heart too.

xoxo
